So, you’ve got an event coming up. You don’t attend these things often enough to warrant buying a new outfit – so you’re looking at hiring.

Lucky for you we have a wide variety of Hirewear outfits to choose from: whether you’re looking to flash your knees in our finest kilts, roll up to the red carpet in a Tuxedo, or get the top and tails out for the races – we have it all.

Now, we understand for some men the idea of this can be a bit daunting, and that’s why we keep it as easy as possible – any stress or concerns, you don’t have to worry about at Slater Menswear. With over 50 years of doing it, we’ve got it down to a fine art.

Before you visit, we’d recommend having a read of the details below – our advisors in-store will be able to answer any questions you have – but these cover the process, and the most common questions;

How long can I hire an outfit for?

Is your event out of town? Heading to a sunny destination for a wedding? Maybe you have several events in quick succession?

Then we have good news, you can hire an outfit for as long as you need!

The standard process (described in more detail further down the page) is you would have your hire for one week, the items would arrive at our store 2/3 days before the event/flight, you would come in to collect your items, event at the weekend and then return your hire 2 days after the event.

Extended hires work as below:

  • Standard Week: example price - £84 for your hire
  • Eight to fourteen days 1.5x standard price: £126
  • Fifteen to twenty-one days 2x Standard price: £168
  • Twenty-two to twenty-eight days 2.5x standard price: £210

I’m convinced, how do I go about hiring with you?

We recommend you and your partner head to your local Slater Menswear branch - which you can find here.

(We can also cater for those based abroad, who are getting married in the UK, via Email orders).

There are no appointments necessary with us – so when you come in to visit, a member of our staff will be there to get you sorted and answer any questions you have to get you through the process quick and painless.

Once you’ve chosen your outfit, it’s 50% deposit to secure your booking – we just need:

  • Your name/name of all the hiring party
  • Your function/travel date
  • Proof of address
  • 2 contact numbers

And that’s your order locked in.

If there are a number of you hiring, and not everybody could make the initial visit – they should head in 8 to 10 weeks before the event. This allows our third-party supplier to lock in the items chosen for the date you want them – items and outfits go fast during the busier periods, you don’t want one person to be left disappointed and unable to match because they left it too late.

If anybody is worried about any changes in size or wants to be extra safe - a second fitting is offered to all hire customers, and for all stores, this will be guaranteed 2 to 3 days before the supplied function date. If an item needs to be changed, it will be reordered in plenty of time for the function date however will still need to be collected from the store.

Can’t wait, when do I need to get it back to you again?

The return date is 2 days after the function date and that’s standard for all stores. If a later return date is agreed then just let us know.

And late items that haven’t been previously arranged will be charged a late fee of £8 per outfit, per day.

And that covers most of it. If you still have questions or would like some further information, there are a few ways to get in touch with us -

  • You can email our Hirewear Manager directly at [email protected]
  • Reach out on our Facebook page
  • Head in store where one of our team can take you through everything

We hope this has answered some of your hirewear questions and we look forward to welcoming you in-store soon.
