Wedding FAQS

Whether buying online or in-store, shopping for your wedding outfit should be an enjoyable experience, so we've pulled together a list of FAQs on wedding suits and hirewear, to make the process as easy as can be. For help with anything else,  you'll find our contact details at the bottom of the page.


  • How far in advance should I come in to look for a suit?

    We aim to complete the order process within 10 weeks, however, we would advise visiting the store at least 12 weeks ahead of the big day to start the booking process. 

    This ensures that there is enough time for the full wedding party to be measured up, availability on your chosen suit can be checked and confirmed in the required sizing and any alterations to be carried out should they be required.

  • Do I need to book an appointment to visit a store?

    There's no need to book an appointment to shop in-store. Visit whenever suits you, within the recommended time, and we'll make sure you are well looked after. You can find details of your local store, including contact details and opening times on our store locator.

  • How do I make a booking in-store?

    To begin the booking process, you will be asked for the names and details of the wedding party. All wedding party members will be required to have their measurements taken in-store within two weeks of the original booking being made. Once this has been completed, we will then be able to confirm whether it is possible to obtain a suit in all the relevant sizes. If this is not possible, we will suggest an alternative suit. However, every effort will be made to avoid this.

    Once all the wedding party members have been measured and the style of suit confirmed as available for everyone, a 50% deposit on the whole order is required within 7 days. This deposit confirms the order and initiates the suits being brought into the store and held in-store until all alterations are completed and the full balance of the party is paid.

    Please note, an order will not be confirmed until stock has been allocated and the deposit has been paid.

  • When will alterations be done?

    Once all measurements have been confirmed by the store and deposits have been paid, alterations can be carried out. The lead customer will be advised of the collection date for all suits within 4 weeks of all the party’s members’ measurements being confirmed. All members of the party will require a fitting to confirm the ‘good’ fit before suits can be collected. Please take into account a further fitting may be necessary to ensure the desired look.

  • When should the suits be collected?

    Once all alterations have been completed and your suits are ready for collection, the lead customer will be contacted and advised that full payment is due. It is the responsibility of the lead contact to make sure all party members attend a store for their final fittings and collection of their suits.

    During your final fitting feel free to bring along any purchased accessories (shirts, shoes, etc.) to try on with your suit.

    Suits will be held for no longer than 1 week following the final fitting and agreed collection date, and the final balance must be paid in full.


  • Do you have a size guide for me to find out what size I am?

    Yes. Visit the size guide section within the site where you will find more details about our sizing.  Try to consider the full wedding party when looking and select a suit that best suits the requirements of the entire party, if you plan to wear the same style. Sometimes skinny and slim-fit suits stop at smaller sizes. Please be advised that certain suits are only available up to a 46” chest.

  • There’s no option to select a trouser size with my suit, what do I do?

    All of our suits are sold in sets with a six-inch difference between the chest and waist. For example, choosing a 42" chest size comes with 36" trousers. This helps us reduce waste, which is better for the environment, and of course, allows us to deliver fantastic prices to our customers.

    A free alterations service is available at every Slater Menswear store, whether you buy online or in-store, and allows us to let garments out by 1 or 2 inches and take them in by up to 3 inches (depending on the style of suit you buy). So you get the feeling of a fully tailored suit without the premium price tag!

  • I can't find all sizes required for my wedding party online, can you help?

    At times, there may only be selected sizes available to purchase online. If you have seen something you like but we don't have all the sizes you require, please get in touch with our customer services team who will try and source the suit and sizes required from a store. Please note, we have a fast turnaround of stock, and availability in store cannot always be guaranteed so we recommend getting in touch first to check stock before placing an order that only covers part of the wedding party.

  • Can I order suits online and still get free alterations?

    Yes, all suits ordered online for a wedding party can be altered in-store for free, but must follow the same process as suits purchased in-store.

    The full wedding party is required to be measured no later than 12 weeks before the wedding. Once all measurements have been confirmed by the store, alterations can be carried out. Customers will be advised of a collection date within 4 weeks of all-party measurements being confirmed.

  • Can I get a discount for a large order?

    We work hard to keep our prices as low as possible all year round, so, unfortunately, we're not able to give further discounts for larger orders. We do occasionally run promotions across the whole site, or for individual products. Sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date with current promotions and best value products. (We don't share your details with any other companies, and you can unsubscribe at any time)


  • Can I book hire online?

    All hire bookings must be made in-store, but we recommend having a browse online in advance so you have an idea of what you are looking for. You can send an enquiry about any of our outfits prior to going into store.

  • How far in advance do I need to book hire?

    For larger groups or wedding parties, we would advise visiting the store at least 16 weeks ahead of the event to start the booking process and have the first initial set of fittings taken. It’s vital that you have your wedding party all measured in order for the stock to be allocated to each wearer. We would expect all adults in the party to have been measured no later than 3 weeks after your booking has been made and a 50% deposit paid. All kids in the party can be measured 6 to 8 weeks in advance as we appreciate they are growing.

    Single hires can be accommodated in a shorter timescale, please speak to the hirewear advisor in-store directly.

  • Can I arrange hire in my local store but collect at another branch?

    Yes you can, if you advise at the time of booking where you would like to collect your outfits from they can arrange for them to be delivered to your chosen store.

  • Can I hire single items ie. Shirt, Shoes and Ties?

    Unfortunately not, all of our hirewear items come as a package and have to be hired as a full outfit.

  • What is the longest period I can hire an outfit for?

    Our pricing is for up to a 7 day hire.

    Hires over 7 days will incur an extra charge. Hires between 8-14 days will be charged as a hire and a half and a double hire charge will be applied for hires between 15-21 days. Please ask in store for details and prices for hires longer than 21 days.

    Hired garments should be returned no later than 2 days after your event.

  • What sizes do the items start from and go up to?

    We hire outfits from as young as 18 months up to a 60 inch chest size.

  • How do I arrange a fitting?

    We do not operate an appointment system, simply drop into your local store when you are ready to discuss/book your hire and a member of our Hirewear team will be happy to help.

  • Can alterations be made on hire outfits?

    Unfortunately, our alterations service is limited to our retail suits only and no alterations can be made to our Hirewear items.

  • Can hire items be taken abroad?

    Yes, our hired outfits can be taken abroad. These hires may be subject to additional charges dependent on the timeframe required. Standard prices apply to a 7 day hire.

  • Do you have a sample of every outfit in-store?

    Our hire outfits are ordered direct from our supplier so we do not carry a sample of every available outfit in store. We do, however, have a sample of every available size so measurements can be taken accurately and material swatches are also available so you can view the colour and material of your chosen outfit.

    Please note material swatches are not available for purchase.

  • Are there any special offers on hirewear?

    We are currently offering 5 hirewear outfits for the price of 4;

    • Hire 5 outfits from the Highland range or 5 outfits from the Formalwear range and the most expensive is free. (This offer is conditional on all 5 orders and deposits being taken at the same time and all 5 outfits being all highland dress or all formalwear).
    • All 5 outfits must be for the same function date. This offer may be withdrawn at any time.
    • A 50% Deposit is required.
    • Items are to be returned 2 days following the function date.
